Was recently fired from Whales after 2 months.

    The good
Pay is mid-range, on time (albeit with the teacher having to cover transfer costs), curriculum quality above average, decent platform and quick responses from staff.

    The bad
Insanely strict. I had a demo student whose level was far below the material for which he was booked, after a few minutes of persevering it became clear that there wasn’t much I could do without some support. I told the student he’d have to rebook at a lower level and signed off. I received an email the next giving me a month’s notice for “damaging the company’s reputation”.
Three days later, I received an email with a screenshot of my with my mouth open and tongue out saying that my contract had been terminated effective immediately. I’m sure all reading this know how silly classes with kids can get.

I’ve been teaching for over 10 years, not once been fired in my life.

You’re also fined for everything and docked 80% of your pay if you leave the classroom 2 seconds early (not an exaggeration).

As far as the “teaching Chinese kids” industry goes, it’s no worse than the rest, I suppose, but unless you’re happy to walk on eggshells, I’d stay clear.
