Vivaling

Comments and Reviews for Vivaling

Vivaling is based in Singapore and they teach English, Mandarin, Spanish, French and German to children around the world. They hire native and non-native English speaking teachers with 2 years experience working with children and a certificate or degree in teaching languages.

The pay scale works like this… Coaches start with a base salary of $20 or $21 an hour (depending on how they performed in their training). The pay then gets reviewed every 6 months and can increase by $1/$2 each time. The top pay is $26 an hour. There are various paid opportunities to get involved in such as other non-teaching roles like training, mentoring, recruitment and content development.

Vivaling does not charge coaches for training and any teaching given during the training period is paid time. Vivaling coaches mostly work with kids, though there are now many adult learners too.

    Hello teachers from Vivaling.
I have read on many websites that the payment starts from 20$/h but no one has ever talked about the number of hours one usually has classes everyday.
May I ask, in general, how many classes does a typical teacher has on Vivaling? How many hours a week do teachers usually teach every day/wee/month?

I know it totally depends on your free slots you have opened for students to be booked, your performance, and how the students like you, however, I am talking about “usual” working hours a teacher has on Vivaling.

Hello, I am interested to know about their non-teaching opportunities, does anyone here in the forum have an idea how to reach their recruitment team other than going to their website snd leaving a message there?

    Thank you!

I have been working for Vivaling for about two years and I LOVE IT. Not only do we have incredible students, the support team is also fabulous. It has given me the flexibility to decide when and where I want to work. The pay rate is above average compared to many companies out there and let’s face it, we get paid to meet wonderful people and teach them at the same time. I have never looked back and am extremely grateful for this amazing job.

Hello, can you please help me a bit. This school sounds amazing. I would like to give it a try. Can you please tell me, am I a suitable candidate for this school if I have a teaching experience and a c2 certificate, but I’m not a native speaker?

    • VivaLing Coach

Nadia, If you have a native speaker level and you are qualified and experienced then you should apply. VivaLing state on their job application page the following:

“Vivaling is proud to advocate an environment of inclusivity, diversity and equality in the workplace. We celebrate the wealth of knowledge and expertise that a global community can offer and invite everyone to be part of ours, regardless of race, color, age, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin or disability status.
We are always on the lookout for English, Mandarin, Spanish, French or German native or near-native coaches meeting our requirements. If you think you may qualify, we would be delighted to hear from you.”

Hello! I’ve been invited to send a demo video teaching Spanish to a child. Yet, I cannot find a student to do it. Does anyone know someone who would like to take Spanish lessons? Thanks a lot

I have been working for Vivaling for nearly four years now.
I was an experienced classroom teacher and the Vivaling VOLT training course really helped me to adapt to teaching online
Vivaling are excellent at seeing the coaches` strengths and giving them opportunities for professional development. Over the last 4 years I have worked on projects to create a curriculum, assessments, to improve the training course and management systems.
You will never be “just” a coach as the coaches are the greatest resource the company has, so you will always feel valued and part of a community.

I have been with for almost a year now and I love every moment! I enjoy the freedom to develop lessons that will enthuse the students. Vivaling has a strong focus on learning through gamification – so it ensures that the students have fun and at times do not even realize that they are learning. The pay is very good in comparison to other online companies and there is constant opportunity to improve your income. I also enjoy that Vivaling provides expected skills to master, however, the time frame is up to the student and their pace of learning. You can truly help a student master a skill.
The company hires teachers from any country with a native English speaking accent.

I love Vivaling because the students are fantastic, the pay is great, there is a great support system (including curriculum) and overall it’s just a great company to work for. I’ve been asked to do additional projects too which is extra nice. I work for several other companies but vivaling is by far my favorite and I hope to make it my full time gig very soon.

Hello…I really want to apply in a platform where I can learn immensely…n for me Vivaling is the best platform to start with…So regarding this… can someone help me out that what are there requirements when it comes to equipments?? Is it audio or video class sessions??

I have been working at Vivaling teaching Spanish for three years now. The pay starts at $20-21/hour and can go up by $1 or $2 every 6 months. You need to prepare classes and materials and it is not included in the salary, but I have been working as a Spanish teacher for more than 8 years and they had never paid me for the previous preparation anywhere I worked.
The coach community is great, we have regular meetings, workshops and a great environment. The initial training to start working at Vivaling is free and it is interesting, useful and really well thought of.
Never had more communication, continuous training and help between colleagues as I had in Vivaling. I highy recommend working here if you are interested in an online language teaching company!

I have been with VivaLing for five years now. My son has also been taking sessions since he was five. This means I have had the opportunity of seeing things from both sides.

Firstly, as a teacher – or Coach (as we call ourselves).

I have always been an esoteric teacher. Ten years in school and now five online. This is the best job I have ever had.

My learners have ranged from five to adults and come from all over the world.

I love that VivaLing sessions are one-to-one and are not restricted by a time frame. This means that if your learner dies not understand, you can go over the objective again but in another way, until they get it.

This means that you are really able to teach, and they actually learn! There is no need to rush on without understanding.

VivaLing also offer wonderful training so you are well prepared for your sessions. They give you access to many resources and activities. The hardest job is choosing which to use!

The training is free and will take a maximum of three weeks (with a little time spent each day.) However, if you have time, you could get it done in three days!

After training, pay is $20 p/h and an be raised to $26 ph. There are also many other opportunities to get involved with the company – just let them know!

There is also the opportunity to create your own materials and projects that your learners will love. Creating or adapting stories using Harry Potter characters, listening to music, discussing celebrities, sports or news topics, creating presentations. The limit is your imagination (and if you are lacking this, the other Coaches are amazing and always full of ideas).

The hours at VivaLing are very flexible. They will inform you of their busy times and there you are sure to get work.

The holidays used to be quiet, but now VivaLing offer five day holiday camps, so even then there is opportunity for work.

    As a parent….

My son never ever complains when I tell him he has a Spanish session. Quite the opposite. He loves to fun and games! His Coach always responds and stays in touch with me. We exchange comments and ideas. It is obvious that we both want the best for him.

As a result, he doesn’t even realise he is learning! He is only seven and it is amazing to see him love to learn! I honestly believe this has taken effect in other areas of his life too.

I would like to thank you all (all the coaches above) that took the time to post here. I was looking for some more information about teaching at VivaLing, but did not truly find as much information as I found about other ESL online companies. Thank you again!

Wishing you all a splendid day!

I am really impressed with all the positive comments from Coaches working for this company. Thank you for your information. I love the “coach” approach and 1:1 interaction for really developing relationships and successful teaching experiences for both the student and the coaches.
Although I am not new to teaching ESL, I am new to online teaching. Any recommendations for the demo lesson and what the company is looking for in a quality demo lesson for the application?
Also, back in the day when I received my TEFL certificate, only 100 hours was the standard and that was my training. I see on the application they require 120 hours minimum. Would you recommend getting some additional hours through an online program of some sort to make-up the difference and thereby show two certificates?
Many thanks for your kind replies.

Can I ask, how much effort does the teacher need to put into developing the material? It seems like a lovely company with a decent pay rate, but I am concerned that I may need to spend a lot of time and effort creating the coursework. Also, do they usually fill all of your time slots or are there big gaps in your schedule? Thanks so much for any help!

  • Coach

They consider all teachers who have native level regardless of their nationality. I believe there are a couple of Filipino teachers on the English Coach team.

I have worked for multiple online companies and from my experience, working as a coach with Vivaling has been by far my favorite. The way we can make lessons tailored to the specific child and use a wide variety of resources allows us as coaches to make the lessons much more dynamic and engaging. It also is a very unique work experience. I work from home, but Vivaling has a community of teachers and we have occasional online meetings and keep in touch via messages. I have really enjoyed it an highly recommend it to anyone looking to teach English lessons online (though I would include in that recommendation that writing lessons is a lot of work and requires at least basic knowledge of teaching, ESL curriculum/techniques, and working with children.)

I have been working at VivaLing for the past two years, and I can’t recommend it enough. The learners and their families are lovely to work with, and since the market is mostly in Europe, rather than in China compared to many other online companies, the hours are much more comfortable for me in the US. Besides solid pay and wonderful students, the best part of VivaLing is the coach community. I have always felt a part of something bigger and not just a number. I feel like a valued member of a team with administrators and other coaches alike encouraging and helping me along. There are opportunities for professional development to support us as educators, not just native speakers. VivaLing has been developing new and interactive curriculum that is fun to work with, but we have a lot of flexibility to incorporate games and other activities to personalize lessons and make them more engaging for the students – and ourselves! After working at another company that had very rigid materials, I felt robotic, and I was losing my passion to teach. VivaLing has changed all of that, and I couldn’t ask for more out of a company!

I have worked at Vivaling for about 5 years. I love it! You can work Asia or European hours and even though you are given a curriculum and materials, you can pretty much teach in the style that suits you. There’s more preparation involved than the majority of other online schools, but for me, it’s more rewarding and fun to pick out the activities to do each time.
Pay starts at $20/21 and hour and goes up by $1 or $2 every 6 months. I’m currently at the peak rate which is $26 an hour. If you want to get involved in non-teaching work there are a lot of opportunities. I’ve been a mentor and trainer for example. My friend who works for the same company is involved in the recruitment.

I worked for Vivaling for a year and a half. They have a great team who supports teachers and the students are the best students I’ve ever worked with in my entire career. Absolutely amazing! You give 1-on-1 sessions to students. Basically, your pay is $20 an hour – it’s hard to go higher than that. Plus, there is lots of unpaid time (communicate w/ parents and students via email, lesson planning – you have to make your own lessons, and team meetings). Great students and ok job but I left because of the low pay

Hello! Can I ask you what are the working hours? Is it a set your own schedule type job?

I have a certification and 4 years teaching experience through private tutoring but I don’t have a degree- do you think they’d consider me or is a degree mandatory?

I’m sorry to ask you so many questions but I can’t find much information on them.

Thanks for even reading this! G’day!
