Profy Review
Profy (website is down) is based in Colombia. They let you set up your own profile but the pay is fixed at $10 USD per hour (not including bonuses). Classes are 1 to 1 with adults and non
–natives can sign up but they must have at least a certified C1 level. No degree, experience or TEFL certification is required. Teachers must put up a minimum of 10 hours per week.

I waited for a long time to get a student and I got nothing for 3 months. They didn’t even verify my profile. They blamed it because of the number of applicants due to China’s change in policies. It’s worthless to sign up with them.

I won’t waste much time on this comment. Suffice it to say this place is much worse than words can describe. Operations, performed by kids acting like they are in charge of something “special” and much greater than their tiny minds can comprehend, dominate. Personally, I blame the owner(s) since they THINK they’re in charge. However, I doubt they want the responsibility of the operations and have handed them off to incompetent teenagers (or the equivalent). The worthless software platform forces competent teachers into using an outside source e.g. Zoom, Skype, etc… They have over-extended their hiring capacity and match students/teachers based on personal evaluation, equivalent to a preschooler in a toy store.
The student/teacher language problem stems, again, from the poor platform that allows a teacher to select their lowest Spanish language level as “beginner.” Since when is beginner the same as NONE? As my last note on their platform, I will not comment as I do not provide free software consulting services, especially to “schools” such as this. To you, the reader of this comment, while these may seem like petty remarks, I suggest you satisfy your curiosity and see how much you like it.

My experience on Profy has been great! I find the management to be extremely attentive and helpful. I have had no issues with booking classes and love having autonomy over my work schedule. The students have been excellent and respectful. I cannot comment about the language component because it has not been an issue for me.

I totally agree with you CD. While I did not experience the language problem, the school is (for the most part) a joke in that the management, student recruiting and website construction is worthless. It is sad that other countries are as bad as China.

Sorry gang, but this place is an ABSOLUTE JOKE. From student sign-up through teacher assignment. A complete waste of time. They lie to the students by telling them the teachers speak Spanish (students in Columbia aren’t that bright anyway) and they lie to the teachers telling you Spanish isn’t required. The end result: you get nothing but intro classes (which are no pay for YOU the teacher) and NO students because they think you have to know Spanish to teach them. This is another China in hispanic clothing!
