I worked for itutor for over 2 years. They pay ontime and your schedule is completely flexible, however their sales process puts very low level students in very high level classes, which frustrates the students and frustrates the teachers bc the material is very often WAY too advanced for the student.

I’ve taught ESL for over 10 years. Putting someone in a class that’s too advanced for them doesn’t help the student, it actually slows their progress because they don’t understand what is happening and because of their frustration with the material they are less likely to study and progress.

iTutor also has staff that treat teachers terrible. My rating over thousands of classes was a 9.7 you’d often have a group class with 1 student who didn’t understand or perhaps didn’t get the material and if that student gave you a bad rating instead of simply not pairing you with that student you’d just get a bad rating.

They also would pair me with students who gave me consistently bad ratings. Their system seems to be designed to make you GRIND for your ratings and constantly be worried. I’d have an entire week of 9-10 ratings and then start seeing the same low-rating students over and over.

Once I even saw a student 3 times in a row who told me in English, TEACHER, I DO NOT LIKE YOU. I TOLD THEM NOT TO PAIR US TOGETHER. She turned off the camera, called iTutor, and started yelling at them in Chinese.

After a while she came back on and told me, I’m Sorry Teacher, you are very good, I miss my old teacher and I’m trying to find someone like her, I’m sorry. She then turned off her computer. iTutor messaged me and started accusing ME of doing something. I asked them to review the video and they sent me a SECOND warning. I finally called them and learned THEIR REVIEWERS DIDN’T EVEN SPEAK ENGLISH SO HAD NO IDEA what she was saying.

And that’s just a TINY snipet of the CONSTANT Drama their unprofessional staff causes. I have dozens of stories over a 2 year period.

Hello and thank you for the information on iTutor Group plus the above comments. They offered me a job today and after looking over the contract I came straight here knowing I can typically find employee reviews here. I was reluctant to sign the contract and think it’s odd how they have such a wide pay range for employees. I have a BA in foreign languages, a TEFL certification and 3 plus years teaching all ages online and in person. They offered me $8 USD per 25 minute kids session and $10 USD for 45 minute adult sessions. The ad for the job said they paid from $20-25 USD so I feel from the start I cannot trust them. I may take the advice of actual.itutor.teacher and try negotiating a fixed pay rate or I may just go somewhere else.

Hi, I’m a non-native English teacher with TEFL qualification, Bachelor and Master degree plus 4 years teaching experience with both adults and children in the classroom. I was just hired by iTutor Group and was shocked at the base pay rate of USD 2 per hour class taught. After reading that their base pay rate is USD 10-14, I did my research and realized that the base pay rate is by nationality. Not sure if other non-native teachers have similar experiences from other companies?

“Working Hours – 7 peak hours per week are required for each candidate, Within the 7 hours, at least 4 needs to be during the weekend”
-> Not true. You have to commit to a 5 hour minimum fixed schedule (some teacher do not have a fixed schedule) and NO required hours on the weekends.

As for the pay, I regularly earned $2000 a month, $20 an hour, and it was happy days for a year.

After that, I – like everyone else – had to start doing demo classes which forced an unexpected (and sizable) pay cut. My $20 an hour was reduced to less than $5 for those same hours, well below minimum wage for my location. You can cancel those hours and re-book them for higher paying classes, but they may not be filled. None of this was made clear when applying and my recruiter left out the crucial details of how your salary can be depleted by things beyond your control: low pay demo classes, low pay 45 min adult classes and a utterly nonsensical rating system where a child can leave a low rating which can have serious consequences. Ratings will directly and indirectly affect your monthly earnings and eventually your employment status with the company. They’re not a joke.

My advice, 1) be living the US, UK or Canada to get a decent base rate and 2) try to get a fixed pay contract where ratings do not affect you directly and demos and other classes are not criminally underpaid.
