Antoree

Antoree Review

Antoree is based in Vietnam and teaches 1 to 1 classes. The website has many Vietnamese teachers listed so it appears that they hire non-native English teachers as well. Students can choose their teachers and give them ratings. The teachers are responsible for creating their own teaching materials. Classes are taught through Skype and they pay between $9 and $12 USD per hour.

    2021 update for Antoree:
a month ago I applied there, fairly soon I got an invitation for an interview, which was conducted by a decently nice girl (she was eating and didn’t have her camera on, but in general she was nice). Soon after that I was contacted by their administration, and told I got the teacher job, and my pay would be 5 USD per 60 minute lesson. The contract I got is, in writing at least, fairly decent (of course, more forgiving for students than for teachers). Their library is very good, but the lessons still require a bit of preparation – they have a lot of useful books but you have to “extract” the stuff you want to use. I have seen three different pieces of information about payment dates, so they do tend to change that a lot, we will see what happens with that (they pay via PayPal or bank transfer).

I will update this review as time passes (working conditions, students, paychecks…)

Apparently, this company is having financial difficulties. When I started three or so years ago, the pay was consistent. Then, over the last year or so, they’ve come up with a myriad of excuses why they are going to pay late…just about every month. Then, they will routinely omit or miscalculate your classes and then you have to argue with them for two months to get paid. Now, they cannot afford to keep their operations in Singapore…so, they’re moving operations to Vietnam. Vietnam is all about ripping off foreigners. The 20% income tax on foreigners is Vietnam’s policy (the Vietnamese only pay 10%). Well, as a foreigner, you get no benefit from paying those crazy high taxes…so, it’s pure theft. With that said, if you’re a native English speaker, don’t work for Antoree; the pay is the lowest in the industry (a maximum of $12/hour), while most Chinese English sites pay native English teachers $20 USD + /hour.

  • Fed Up

Worst company. You will just waste your time. They don’t pay $9 and you can ask every teacher in Antoree. They pay max is $4, actually not even $4. And they have this very huge TAX of 20%. And puts on penalty to every thing. Then if you will not agree to what they want, they will terminate you. Antoree is the epitome of HITLER. If you’re smart enough, DO NOT APPLY IN THIS COMPANY.

  • f*ck

As usual the salary is delayed again. Teachers used to receive their salaries every 27th of the month. They changed it to 30/31st. But until now they are still processing it. They have not sent it yet. What a lousy company and finance team!!!

  • foolishone

The salary is not fixed. They will give you the salary whenever they want. Sending of salary is always changing. Such a greedy company. Do not apply. You will die in this company. Instead of increasing the salary of their tenured teachers, they are reducing it. They removed the bonus. They are implementing a 20% TAX when other companies do not.

The management is not good. They don’t care about their teachers. Even their good CMD’s have resigned because of the greediness of the owner. They fire teachers whoever disagrees to them. All teachers working under this selfish company just don’t have a choice.

DO NOT STUDY IN THIS ONLINE ENGLISH COMPANY. Their teachers (foreign) are really good but the management and owner is a son/daughter of the devil. Their Vietnamese teachers don’t even know correct grammar. How poor can they be in English grammar?

DO NOT APPLY IN THIS ONLINE ENGLISH COMPANY. You will just be wasting your time and effort. They will pretend to be good at first.

  • Sad Teacher

Such a crazy company, don’t ever apply. The management is so greedy. They are asking high amount to the students but they give an ample amount to the teachers. The salary is only more than 2 dollars per hour it doesn’t reach to 3 dollars per class and yet the management is asking up to 9 dollars from the student

  • delay

We used to receive our payments every 27th of the month. Now, they are delaying the send out of our salaries. And they have the guts to tell us that it is not delayed. We want to slap their faces and show that they usually send payments every 27th.

This is the worst company. If you want to live a miserable life, then go ahead and a victim. For us teachers, we’re leaving.

  • lousy

Antoree is now implementing a 20% tax to its foreign teachers. While some other online ESL schools in Vietnam does not implement this tax deduction. Where are you getting the audacity, Antoree? How can you sleep in the evening knowing you’re stealing from your teachers.

Oh, we know. Antoree is on bankruptcy. That is why they need to steal from their teachers. What a pathetic move! They don’t have enough students anymore because of such a bad reputation.

  • Former Employee

Think a million times before applying. Not a good company to work for, some staffs are not professional, salary is declining. Have you ever worked in a company without any benefit and the salary rate is decreasing? Well try to find out and you will know the truth.

The company created the golden hour, unfortunately this policy is not for teachers. Imagine your hourly rate is 240 pesos and when the golden hour was formulated (golden hour is from 6pm to 10pm not sure of the time) salary will no longer be 240 but 190 pesos. So shocking!

During the golden hour, everyone whose salary is above 190 will no longer be enjoying the higher amount, it will be 190 pesos for everyone. What a disgusting policy. Is the salary not declining? Where is the professional growth? Another factor, if your salary is higher, no matter how good you are they wont be giving you many students. It will be given first to those teachers who have lower salary. So end up waiting with nothing. But if there are many students you can get one of course.

Where is the justice of this oppression! Tutors eventually agreed without any choice because of their love to the students. I’m just wondering if what has come to the mindset of the president of this company. She is ungrateful. Without the teachers, she can’t enjoy the luxury she had been enjoying. Girl try to look down and share your blessings.

Second and the latest is to deduct the 20% tax to some teachers who are currently living in the Philippines (currently living in the Philippines and not in Vietnam). If you won’t agree you will be terminated. Lucky for some teachers, no 20% tax deduction.
Now tell me, is the target to give you a higher income? Of course not, they are just using your talent, time, effort and much of your energy.
To the parents, because they are paying high, they expect a lot from their teachers and teachers are like their slaves…

  • evilantoree

Antoree is falling apart. At first, I consider them one of the best companies in Vietnam. But damn! They are now the epitome of EVIL.

If you’re tired of your life and want to die, then apply and teach. If you want to die young and be filled with stress, then apply in this company and you’ll definitely know the true sense of STRESS.

The salary is ALWAYS LATE. So fuck to those who will say that they pay on time. Ask their teachers, they NEVER pay on time. They always have this lame excuse. Their payment team is so stupid. We’re even thinking if those really graduated with a degree.

They are stealing money from the teachers. Before, they give good bonuses. Now, they are reducing bonuses from their teachers. We used to be motivated by teaching the students. But now, they almost don’t want to give a bonus. I had a student who gave me an extra bonus for teaching her so well, but Antoree did not give me that money. The parent of my student told me about it and just sent me a separate one. That is clear STEALING.

Now they are implementing a 20% TAX. And all they can say is that it is mandated by their government but couldn’t explain thoroughly. This Antoree thought that their teachers are stupid. We are teaching off-shore. If the teachers will not cooperate with the TAX, they will terminate the teachers. Or worst, they will not give students to those complaining teachers. They even take away the students and transfer them to another teacher. The IMPLEMENTATION OF 20% TAX OF ANTOREE IS PURE STEALING.

Their teacher support staff have the worst attitude. If they don’t like how you ask them and whenever you ask about the salary why it was late again, they will scream at you.

Antoree thought they’re the best. But it is their teachers that make Antoree. This company has become so ARROGANT. They will fail because they do not know how to treat their teachers well.

We are so done with this EVIL company. We are resigning. Antoree is not worth your time and effort.

  • disappointed

salary is always late, very inefficient administration, just cares about marketing, and considering that there’s no set course for the teachers to follow, and teachers prepare their own lessons, it’s like their milking on the good teachers and neglecting the less experienced ones, giving them no guide, no training … and salary is NOT $9 to $12 … more like a little under $3 to $4, with little to no benefits … uses all sort of tricks to lessen teacher benefits … leaves teachers high and dry if you dare go against them… convenient set up (except you have to double-check every single thing because of all their tricks), sometimes the stress can really get to your nerves … apply at your own risk

  • Teacher A

As of now, March 2020, I can say that contrary to old reviews, Antoree has been improving.
Their staff has been more approachable and they reply and entertain fast. However, if you have submitted an application on a weekend, you must wait since their office hours are only on weekdays. You also still get to choose your student, and you will have an assistant in designing the curriculum since there is a CMD for every student.

    • So it's me

      Teacher A,

Improving? Where did that come from? If I may ask, how long have you been with Antoree? Excuse me, as far as the teachers are concerned, this company is getting worst. And they just implemented a 20% tax on teachers’ salaries, much against the will of the teachers. So, whoever you are, you don’t know what the real situation is.

You just raised our eyebrows. Next time, think before you comment and get your facts straight.

    • done

Where is the improvement? It’s actually getting worst. Or maybe you are an employee of this shitty company. If you call it an improvement, I would not know the true essence of the word.
Their staff, teacher support, has a bitchy attitude. They feel they are superior. Without them realizing that without their foreign teachers, Antoree is nothing. Not even their Vietnamese teachers can speak English well. And they don’t reply fast. They suck!
There are no enough students for the teachers. You have to pray that the student will choose you so you can teach him/her.
The CMD does not even assist you in designing the curriculum. They will just tell you the level and the teacher will be the one to look for the book and everything.
From what planet are you, Teacher A? You should get your facts straight and not try to LIE about the unjust treatment of the company.
I’m done. We’re done. We’re leaving your shitty company.

      • So it's me

        @ done on,

BOL, ha ha ha, about the planet. You just made my day….well said and well done! Just a wild guess who Teacher A is……

        Last name starts with A and ends with R…………( A _ _ L _ _ R)

Teachers must be WARNED of ESL scams..,
Even ASEAN or Non Native Neutral Speakers dont deserve to get cut or under paid.

I tend to agree with most of what has already been said about Antoree. They are always changing pay period cut-off times and payment dates. The pay period before last, I had to wait a month and a half for payment. Last pay period they shorted me two hours, even though the classes were added and confirmed on time, and Antoree still refuses to pay me for those hours. They keep pretending that I didn’t confirm those classes, even though I provided them with their website screen captures showing that they were. Continually, Antoree’s Accounting staff blames me for their errors. In my opinion, all this is happening because Antoree is having financial issues and is trying to delay/avoid payments. Or, perhaps, this is just the scamming culture that is so prevalent and accepted in East Asian culture.

As for student cancellations and reschedulings…they are all so common. Students will routinely cancel or change the time of classes…at the last minute, ignoring the three hour pre-notification rule. Antoree tries as hard as it can to avoid paying you for students’ failure to comply with the notification rule.

Overall, while it seems like convenient work, you take a risk working for Antoree. You never know exactly when you will be paid or if you will be paid the right amount. If you encounter an issue, especially concerning payment, Antoree will delay their response, blame you, or tell you to contact many different people that won’t help you.

I have my Vietnamese wife try to solve problems with them, but even she thinks they are low-functioning.

  • So it's me

Don’t waste your time on this company. They don’t treat their teachers well and salaries are always late. They keep on changing the cut-offs and policies. Poor management (VAN ANH PHAM- CEO) and ill mannered Teacher Support staff. Very unprofessional. You’ll just get stressed. Go anywhere except Antoree. And yes, you’re welcome for those who will follow my advice.

  • Leaving Antoree teacher

    This company is ridiculous
    They never pay on time
And they changes payment cut-off whenever they want
They also changed HM ull get and suddenly created golden hour rules with an obvious intention of paying teachers less
now our salaries are 3 days delayed
They wont even help you and they will put the blame on the payment website they use for payment
A student can cancel classes for stupid reasons like watching a ball game and they would fight their way to not record that class ull end up giving up
but when ur absent due to an emergency, they wont even f*cking care
Their materials are very minimal and their Teacher support is insane
A co-teacher mentioned how the staff insulted her saying that she should be thankful for our pay and they can just
replace teachers with a lower salary and now they said we should get a paypal account and be prepared to pay for paypal fees because of the fiasco right now
and they wont use the payment site anymore.
Like what staff would say that? anyways sure apply at your own risk teachers

  • A former teacher of Antoree

The company is not good, better not to apply. Most students are always absent and do not follow on their time schedule. So sad for the teachers waiting and have prepared everything for the lesson but your time was just useless, no class no earnings. Your expected salary will sometimes be one fourth only of what you are expecting for the month because of absences. The staff in the accounting are not good when it comes to the teachers salary. It is always late and never on time. They are always telling many excuses every month that sometimes unbelievable. The company doesn’t have any concerns about teachers. This is the worst company ever.

  • Zorica Bukva

My experience is totally opposite. I think it is one great company with very polite staff. I have been working for them for about six months now and everything has been perfect. The salary is OK,too and what is the most important it is on time. I would recommend the company to both teachers and students,

  • Lara

I spent a couple of hours working on my teacher profile for Antoree. This is the first step in the application process. You have to create an account on their site. Provide your basic information, do a 1-2 minute audio recording, create a written self-introduction, and pass a grammar test. I successfully completed all of these steps. Honestly, it will take a couple of hours. I did make it to the final interview which was conducted by a very nice, young, and shy lady named Julie, (they use English names). I have to say there’s a slight lack of coordination in their Vietnam office since I already confirmed my interview schedule with Julie, and yet still received another interview invitation from another staff named Vicky. Anyway, the interview was quite easy, Julie was polite, asked me a few questions, and then we did a short mock class. The interview plus demo lesson took about 40 minutes.

So, the next day I received an offer. Having read it thoroughly, I’ve decided not to work for the company for two reasons. First, the low pay of 107 php/hour, even for Philippine teachers, this is quite on the very low side. Second, extreme penalties, I won’t go into the details of it all, but it did sound like if things go wrong during a lesson, like connection issues, or if you have a personal emergency and have to cancel, you’d be subject to some very unfavorable situations. It also took awhile for the company to get back to me from the time I submitted my application, perhaps a month or so. Anyway, from my experience with Julie, I think the staff are nice and it would’ve been easy to work with them. Also, the hours are flexible. Unfortunately, overall, what they offer doesn’t seem worth the time and energy you’d invest as a teacher. Especially, if you’re like me who’s looking for something long-term. I hope this information would be useful to others who are considering this company.

  • M. Freeman

This company doesn’t reply. I think they have an over supply of teachers or the recruiters don’t have basic manners. I am a professional online tutor with 8 years exp. with teaching certificates and K-12 and TESOL certified. I made a profile in their website, i passed the test ( almost perfect score) But i get no response — NO email, No skype reply. I waited for two weeks –Nothing! I just wasted my time… Do not apply as a teacher here! They are so unprofessional. They don’t deserve your time!!
