March 7th, 2022 Look around any online tutor support group on Facebook and you’ll unfortunately find many stories on disreputable TEFL companies not paying teachers or reducing pay checks through punitive fines. This happens because online TEFL companies can operate from anywhere, meaning they are not held to account to western labour laws. The dust is still settling after the chaos caused by the Chinese government’s new regulations for online teaching. They probably won’t pay you as much as other companies, but these companies could be perfect for some people. Another option for teachers without a university degree is to fast track your Bachelor’s Degree using your work experience as partial credit. This will open many more TESL doors.
