Open English

Open English Review

Open English <—- (Click here to Apply) is quite popular across Latin America they even have TV commercials here trying to get students. They want native speakers with a “North American accent”. According to their application they want teachers who are able to work in the USA legally. They do not require a TESL certificate but you must have a university degree. They offer group classes and 1-to-1 classes to both adults and kids. (Check out Open English Junior) Scheduling is flexible but you must be willing to work at least 10 hours per week Open English pays around $10 USD per hour to start but you can make up to $15 per hour. They pay with Paypal or by wire transfer.

I have been teaching with Open English for almost a year now. They offer different pay rates depending on the time of day you teach. Weekends pay the most regardless of what time of the day they are. This is a very low demanding company. You are assigned 25 minute classes from 1 – 4 students. You do not have to prepare the lesson beforehand. 2 minutes before you start the class you are given a link to download the PDF lesson and also the info of the students in that class. My only complain is that you dont have regular students. Im not quite sure how they assign you students but you almost never have the same students which can be frustrating since you never really help a student progress. I usually earn $1,000 – $1,400 a month teaching 20 – 30 hours a month. Overall its an easy job that gives you decent pay. It’s my second source of income and I’m happy with having a flexible schedule and virtually no demands as a teacher.

I just completed the online application and found it easy and fast, if you have your documents and credentials uploaded on your laptop or pc. I guess I will see what happens next!

So, how did it go, Helen? I´m interested in this company even though it pays less than most. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

According to their online application form, they ask if you can legally work in the US. This should be part of the info on The List.
